For ageing gracefully with dementia

As average life expectancy increases, the likelihood of illness is generally on the rise. Innovative (technical) solutions are also being sought in the field of neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia.

In our interdisciplinary research project at the University of Graz, we are investigating the effects that neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence (AI) can have in the context of dementia and the associated risks and opportunities. The research team consists of colleagues from the fields of law, neuropsychology, sociology and ethics.

Project schedule

  1. First, a comprehensive analysis of the neurotech AI landscape in Styria is carried out, which is summarised in an interactive map.
  2. in the next step, disciplinary studies based on specific use cases follow, on the basis of which we develop interdisciplinary recommendations for action for a dignified approach to dementia in Styria.
  3. we have the results of our studies and considerations evaluated by stakeholders and experts in the course of workshops.
  4. finally, we will present our overall results at a symposium in order to network research and practice and jointly shape the future in this area.
