Research Stay canada

My research stay in Canada in December 2025 served to deepen my expertise and expand my international contacts in the field of AI ethics, technology governance, and human rights. The focus was on exchanges with scientists and institutional actors, participation in public academic formats, and embedding current topics in an interdisciplinary discourse.
At the same time, this stay gave me insight into a different university and research system as well as current and relevant research. It also allowed me to significantly broaden my horizons, not only academically but especially culturally.
Content and activities
As a speaker, I had the opportunity to participate in the interdisciplinary roundtable “Artificial Intelligence Unplugged” at McGill University in Montreal. In addition, I had the honor of being the keynote speaker at the European Union Delegation to Canada’s Human Rights Day event on Human Rights and New Digital Technologies with a presentation entitled “Vulnerability: A Context-Sensitive Lens for Human Rights.”
Apart from these public contributions, I used my time there for:
- discussions with professors and experts
- attending public lectures and academic events
- networking and engage in informal exchanges
Funding
My research stay was largely funded by the Austrian Cultural Forum at the Austrian Embassy in Ottawa, for which I am extremely grateful. This academic trip would not have been possible without their financial support.
